Free

HeadShotOn the evening of October 23rd Arizona Humanities is delighted to bring acclaimed journalist and community activist Thandisizwe Chimurenga  to Arizona to discuss her book No Doubt: The Murder(s) of Oscar Grant. in the book Chimurenga examines the events surrounding the murder of a young unarmed black man at the Fruitvale subway station, and subsequent trial of the police officer who shot him. Violent altercations between the police and the public have been in the national spotlight, and raised questions about the culture of state-sanctioned violence. ASU Professor and Project Humanities director Neal Lester will facilitate a conversation with the author and audience following readings by Chimurenga. Are we unable to see the humanity of people different from ourselves? What can we do to connect, listen and learn from one another to end violence and build inclusive communities?
