Grants Overview
The Arizona Humanities Council (AHC) supports innovative, community-based projects and partnerships that use history, literature, philosophy, and the other humanities disciplines to strengthen and enhance civic life across Arizona in the following areas of emphasis:
- Cultural heritage development
- Cultural literacy
- Civil discourse on timely social and cultural issues
AHC welcomes proposals from a wide range of nonprofit organizations and encourages projects that are innovative in their approach toward the humanities and public programming. We especially encourage projects that encourage critical thinking and community conversation, promote public interaction with humanities scholarship, and employ innovative, accessible public programming formats. Though proposals for all kinds of program formats are welcome, special consideration will be given to programs that are interactive in nature and aim to bring together diverse groups of Arizonans. Examples of program formats include:
- Interactive lectures and discussions
- Exhibits
- Publications
- Projects involving non-profit radio, television, film, print, and Web content
- Audio and visual products as part of a larger project
- Teachers' workshops and in-service programs
AHC offers three different types of grants:

In honor of the tour of Key Ingredients: America By Food in Arizona, AHC is requesting proposals for Project and Opportunity Grants that shares Arizona's diverse regional cooking and eating traditions, and explores how the food we eat connects us to our communities, heritage, and national culture.
We The People
AHC invites grant proposals that explore significant events and themes in American history and culture, advance knowledge of the principles that define America, and increase the public's knowledge and appreciation of American history. Projects may combine a variety of programming formats, and should reach as broad an audience as possible.
