DESCRIPTION:ASU Ethnic Studies Week\, supported by Arizona Humanities \nKEYNOTE LECTURE \nAre We Ready for “School” Abolition?: Thoughts & Practices of a Radical Imaginary in Education with Dr. David Stovall\, University of Illinois at Chicago \nDr. David Stovall is a professor of Educational Policy Studies and African-American Studies at University of Illinois at Chicago. His research interests include critical race theory\, schoolcommunity relationships\, youth culture and the relationship between housing and K-12 school systems. Stovall studies the influence of race in urban education\, community development\, and housing. His work investigates the significance of race in the quality of schools located in communities that are changing both racially and economically. From a practical and theoretical perspective\, his research draws from Critical Race Theory\, educational policy analysis\, sociology\, urban planning\, political science\, community\norganizing\, and youth culture. \nDr. David Stovall is a professor of Educational Policy Studies and African-American Studies at University of Illinois at Chicago.
