2012 Sharing Words, Changing Worlds Lecture

On April 12, 2012, Arizona Humanities with support from ASU Project Humanities, was pleased to host Pulitzer Prize Winner & Poet Laureate Rita Dove as the featured speaker. Ms. Dove shared her journey in writing Sonata Mulattica, about a young mulatto violinist’s encounters with Beethoven and read poems from the book.

Arizona Humanities also honored individuals and organizations that have made lasting contributions and to the the humanities with the 2012 Humanities Awards. AH had the pleasure of presenting two recipients, Elena Diaz Björkquist and Nancy Dallett, with the Dan Shilling Public Humanities Scholar Award which recognizes a humanities scholar who has enhanced public awareness and understanding of the role that the humanities play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

The Arizona Town Hall was presented with of the Juliana Yoder Friend of the Humanities Award which recognizes individuals, organizations or businesses that have made lasting contributions to the cultural life of Arizona through their active support of and involvement in promoting the humanities.
