Project Description
Roundups and Rodeos poetry workshops encouraged and facilitated the creation of cowboy poetry by third through twelfth-graders residing in Cochise County. Students were taught the craft of cowboy poetry and the unique history and culture that it celebrates. Students had the option to enter their cowboy poetry into a local contest. The prize for winners was a public performance of their poem as well as inclusion in the publication Saddlebag of Poems.

The Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering “brings a quality event to the residents of Cochise County; a living, oral history of the west by way of western artistry through storytelling, poetry and music. Through cowboys’ stories and poems the public learns about the ranching’s important in the region; about present day ranching practices, as well as, who the cowboy is today.” -Roundups and Rodeos Final Report
