The 4th Annual Youth and Peace Conference (YPC) is scheduled to take place in Tucson at Higher Ground at Wakefield on February 21, 2015. With strong youth involvement in the conference planning process, YPC is a significant Tucson event empowering youth to be courageous leaders and creative peace-builders. The conference is free and open to children, adults, teens, and families.
The Youth Team selected “What is Compassion?” as the 2015 conference title and chose workshops, speakers, and special activities including an art show and dialogue circles, all geared to explore different aspects of compassion as a peace-building practice. An Opportunity Grant from the Arizona Humanities to the lead agency, Culture of Peace Alliance, is supporting the dialogue circles planned as the closing activity for the conference. This Arizona Humanities grant covered two Circle Facilitation Level I training classes conducted by the Center for Community Dialogue at Our Family Services to prepare youth to co-facilitate the dialogue circles.
The conference is FREE to all who attend. Childcare is available for younger children. Registration and more details about the conference are available online at www.higherground.me/youthpeaceaz.
