Phoenix Theatre and The Black Theatre Troupe join forces to present the shocking true story of nine African American youth jailed in Alabama in 1931 for a crime they did not commit. Featuring a mix of gospel, jazz, and vaudeville, this audacious musical explores the series of events that provoked a national outrage. Every performance includes a post-show discussion led by moderators provided by the ASU Center for the Study of Race and Democracy to explore the themes represented in the show.
There will be three community panel discussions that are free and open to the public.Saturday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m. “Understanding Minstrel Theatre”
