Last week the President announced the 2019 proposed budget, which unfortunately calls for elimination of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
We’ve been down this road before. Last year Congress in its wisdom soundly rejected the proposed cuts, and restored funding to these important organizations. Arizona Humanities and our many friends and supporters applauded the bipartisan leaders who voted to protect this funding.
Arizona Humanities, is our own beloved affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the people of Arizona have benefited from our rich cultural programs and grants for the past 45 years. We bring people together. We encourage the exploration of history and ideas vital to our communities statewide. We foster cultural pride and understanding. We discuss important issues.
We need your help. Please tell Congress to fund the National Endowment for the Humanities. Here are four things you can do right now to keep our Senators and Representatives informed about how important this topic is to you and to Arizonans:
1. Read the statement of response from the Federation of State Humanities Councils.
2. Share your Arizona Humanities story. Contact your congressional members and tell them how Arizona Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities have made a difference in your community.
3. Sign up to be an advocate for the Humanities. Stay informed of news from the Hill and how you can help. Click here to join the list.
4. Forward this email to a friend. Circulate this message to supporters within your networks.
Thank you for your support and for helping to preserve these important programs.
