People Matter.
In a complicated world, where we face new challenges each and every day, navigating political, economic, and social conflicts like we have not seen before….one thing remains the same…we are people. People matter. It sounds so easy, but it is not. Human beings are complicated. Life is complicated. The humanities help us make sense of it all…the human experience.
We are different.
What did you have for breakfast today? Was it pop tarts, a croissant, huevos rancheros, or something wrapped in a banana leaf? What did you call it…breakfast, petit dejeuner, frühstück? Everywhere in the world, if you are lucky enough to have something to eat in the morning, it has a name. What you eat, and when you eat, tells us something about where you come from. The humanities explore the culture and traditions of people around the world, their food, dress, values and beliefs, their political systems, religions, and more.
We are the same.
So why does it matter…that we study and talk about people? It matters because no matter how different our experiences are, no matter how different are opinions are, no matter how different our beliefs are, we have one thing in common…we are human beings. We eat, breathe, laugh, love, mourn, live and die. Like a stone tossed in a pond, the ripples are human lives, one touching another, in a myriad of ways, separate and yet all connected. We can learn from one another, and we can all shape the future. Life is after all, what you make it.
Humanities matter.
Your donations encourage children to read, foster frank conversations on current issues, spark creative poetry, dance and music, and allow us to reflect upon the state of our health, nation and democracy. We cannot navigate the present, or contemplate the future, without learning about the past. Our mission is to help people learn about all of these. The humanities matter.
On behalf of Arizona Humanities, thank you for your generosity.
