Laura Tohe, an award winning poet and the Navajo Nation Poet Laureate for 2015-2019 is Dine’ and Sleepy Rock clan born for the Bitter Water Clan. She will be joined by her son, Dez Tillman, a musician and composer with a passion for creating art that enriches the soul, who is Sleepy Rock clan and born for the White People Clan. The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation will share their historical connections to the landscape surrounding Black Canyon City, as well as the importance of water through stories.
The September Water, Black Canyon City & Me event is the sixth of eight presentations in the year-long local activities that complements the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street exhibit, “AZ Water/Ways,” hosted by the Black Canyon Heritage Park, December 14, 2019 through January 26, 2020 at the Cañon Elementary School in Black Canyon City. The“Water, Black Canyon City & Me” program is made possible by a grant from the Arizona Humanities.
