Experience the incredible history of modern-day Latinos, their migrations from early, mythical times, to our modern era. Stella Pope Duarte will share the story of the mythical land of Aztlán, located in a region north of what is now Mexico, and the people that emerged to search for a permanent homeland. Journeying, perhaps from the region now known as Colorado or Utah in the United States, they found the sign in what is now the Valley of Mexico. Over the centuries, Spanish blood intermingled with Indian blood creating los mestizos, the mestizaje, who would become the modern-day Mexicans, Mexican Americans, Chicanos, and Latinos. Spanish lust for land, power and gold, culminated in the oppression of indigenous peoples that would change the landscape of America forever. The new race, los mestizos, would rise from the ashes of their once splendid city to become, once again, a great nation. Click here for a flyer.
